Faced with the multiplication of armed conflicts and the persistence of geopolitical tensions, the spirit of the Green March offers a unique perspective: that of a courageous political solution, driven by a shared vision of the future. The Green March was not only a demonstration of patriotic fervor; it was a true act of popular sovereignty, a 'vote with the feet' which signaled to the whole world the refusal of partition and Morocco's unwavering attachment to its territorial integrity. Today, as the international community increasingly agrees that wars and conflicts are not a solution, this historic event takes on a new dimension. It encourages us to look beyond the ideological positions inherited from the Cold War to embrace pragmatic and lasting solutions.

Moroccan Sahara: political realism now recognized

The current dynamic around the issue of the Moroccan Sahara brings hope. The recognition by world powers like the United States of Morocco's full sovereignty over its Sahara, and the growing support of many European and African countries for the autonomy plan as the sole basis for settlement, demonstrate a paradigm shift. Political realism finally prevails over separatist fictions. The myth of a “contested territory” is dissipating to make way for the recognition of a historical, legal and social reality: the Sahara has always been Moroccan and will remain so.

It is time for hesitant states to clarify their position

In this context, it is imperative that countries which have not yet clarified their position do so. To remain in ambiguity or, worse, to continue to support a separatist group without representation or a future, is not only going against the flow of history, but it is also slowing down the integration and development of an entire region. The Maghreb of people, united and prosperous, cannot be built on the basis of an artificial conflict maintained by another era. The time has come for all nations to join in this momentum for peace and pragmatism. It is not about siding with one nation against another, but about siding with stability, security and cooperation.

Supporting autonomy: a choice for stability and cooperation

Supporting the solution of autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty means supporting the only viable path to guaranteeing the dignity and development of the populations of the region, while definitively turning the page on a dispute that has lasted too long.

Solemn appeal to the international community

On this 50th anniversary of the Green March, we launch a solemn appeal to the international community. A call to recognize the justness of the Moroccan cause, but above all, a call to work collectively for the union of peoples and the construction of a future of peace. Courage is not to perpetuate conflicts, but to dare to resolve them. Morocco showed the way fifty years ago. It is time for the world to accompany him on this path.
